The Riva has a flat fuel bed because logs burn better on a level bed of ash. Smokeless fuels, on the other hand burn better on a grate that allows air to be drawn in from underneath, so the riva also incorporates a circular grate in the centre of the fuel bed. This skilful design permits the combustion of either fuel with equal proficiency.

The Riva has been specifically developed to be installed with the minimum of structural alteration. Whether a hearth installation or fitted as a hole in the wall fire, there is a selection of profil frames to complement the finest of today's interiors. Further, the Riva 66 is offered in an alternative and highly appealing style called Avanti.

The Riva cassette fire incorporates the very latest cleanburn technology with unique opti-burn setting. This means it burns logs or smokeless fuels with outstanding efficiency, resulting in more heat delivery into the room and less going up the chimney. Combustion is achieved by directing three separate airflow's into the firebox. Primary air burns the fuel in a conventional way; the pre-heated airwash flow helps keep the window clean; and the pre heated secondary air performs cleanburning by the combustion of excess hydrocarbons in the smoke.
